*Registration closes 3 days prior to the 1st day of class*

The Phlebotomy Program is a comprehensive course designed to teach students the technical skills and procedural knowledge essential to the practice of basic phlebotomy. This includes anatomy of the circulatory system, collection, processing, and handling of blood specimens and venipuncture.  This phlebotomy program includes theory and hands-on instruction. The course will have an emphasis on professionalism, patient and workplace safety, blood borne pathogens quality assurance, universal and standard precautions. For students to master the technique of drawing blood specimens, students will practice on special phlebotomy mannequins as well as on fellow classmates. For successful completion of the course students will be required to complete 30 successful unassisted venipunctures and 10 capillary "live" sticks.

Graduates of our program may find suitable entry level employment as a phlebotomist in areas within the hospital systems, laboratories, Infusion centers, Nursing homes, home health care, Dialysis centers and Physician offices

Upon successful completion of the course students will be awarded a certificate of course completion. Students will also be well prepared and eligible to sit and pass the National Phlebotomy Certification Exam (NPCE), offered through the National Heathcareeer Association (NHA) to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician. This certification exam is offered at the school so no 3rd party location is necessary.

Program cost is $1095 for Phlebotomy, which can be paid in four interest free installments if needed. There is a $100 non-refundable application fee that is applied to the total cost of the program.  The course cost is all inclusive (uniform, books, lab supplies, CPR certification and background check). It does not cover the cost of the National Phlebotomy Certification (CPT), exam cost of $129, which is paid directly to NHA.

At this time DCI does not offer any financial aid.

Course Format and Exam

The Phlebotomy program is offered in two forms: in person or as hybrid. The hybrid model classroom instruction is a combination of scheduled lecture instruction, skill lab demonstration and participation. Students may take lecture classes online from home and will come into the physical school for skills lab. Students must have access to a computer and the internet and must be able to access Google Classroom, Zoom, and WhatsApp on their devices. This course is designed to teach students the safe and correct technique of drawing blood specimens. Students will practice specialized phlebotomy manikins as well as “live sticks" on fellow classmates and volunteers.

Students will have daily reading assignments, and a weekly quiz posted on Google Classroom.  The final exam will be held on the last day of class.
